Television on Internet

The La Nación Daily's R&D department began studying different possible implementations of an Internet-based video content distribution system. They approached Digbang in search of a robust content manager and public front-end that could be linked with mainstream video transfer solutions, while withstanding the potential load that the linking and publishing of its contents in LaNacion.com could generate.

Analysis and design

Initially, we set out to design a content management solution that could communicate with a third party application, to both supply it with video players and act as a video repository. When we began our analysis, we encountered the need to cover every requirement of the project, from the public front-end and content-manager to the design of the video file and video player repository, with the application we were about to develop.

Solution

We worked in a joint effort with La Nación, both on the analysis of the features and services we were to provide the public with, and in the design of an integral solution for the storage and transmission of video. An application was developed which allowed the management of contents meant to be published as well as their associated video files which end up stored in a redundant infrastructure belonging to the client. Many different players are used by the application's own front-end, such as embedded players meant for the public to use in publishing video content in their webpages, and special players for the different content sections of lanacion.com. The application also keeps several activity logs, which allow the statistical analysis of each published content's activity.

Results

Today, La Nación counts with www.LNTeve.com - a site wholly dedicated to the spread of content in TV format, which may be accessed directly or through its contents spread on either the Daily's different sections or other content sites belonging to the company. At the same time, thousands of bloggers and webpage owners include contents from this site, thanks to the embedded player. Since the completion and commissioning of the original project, we kept on working jointly with the R&D department to broaden the capabilities and services the application offers, both to the public in general as well as to the rest of the related applications.
